Hello Everyone!
I just wanted to send a heartfelt thanks for the generous response to
the Mutual Aid Disaster Relief/Hurricane Ian supply drive, to share
updates about the state of the campaign (and ways you can still support
it from Vermont), and to promote today's episode of It Could Happen Here
featuring an interview with Jimmy and Rain of MADR about the
organization, and what they are now doing on the ground in Florida.
As to Vermont's contribution, in less than 4 days we managed to fill a
hatchback sedan to capacity with supplies. The response was
overwhelming--figuratively and literally--as we had to leave behind some
of the bulkier/cheaper items for lack of space. That carload was
consolidated with others like it all down the east coast, and has
arrived in storm affected communities in Florida! MADR affiliates note
that donations were coming in more slowly than in previous disaster
relief efforts (perhaps because folks have been tapped out by the
back-to-back-to-back disasters), so the unexpected supplies from Vermont
have had an outsized impact. Now that businesses are largely back up
and running in Florida, the best way to continue to support the relief
efforts are monetary donations directly to Central Florida Mutual Aid
(https://www.tinyurl.com/CFLMutualAid) or to Mutual Aid Disaster Relief
(Venmo: @MutualAidDisasterRelief or Paypal:
[email protected])
Finally, here's a link to today's episode of the It Could Happen Here
podcast featuring Mutual Aid Disaster Relief organizers on the ground in
Florida! If you haven't listened to the podcast before, you oughta....
from the producers "[It Could Happen Here is] a jaunty walk through the
burning ruins of the old world, the one we all live in now, and a guide
to avoiding the worst pitfalls along the road to a better world. It
Could Happen Here season 1 ended with the possibility of a second civil
war. It Could Happen Here Daily with Robert Evans, accepts collapse as a
given, and tries to provide a roadmap to survival."
